Academic Support Officer (Alternative Provision)

About the Role
The Academic Support Officer is directly accountable to the Academic Lead Teacher and plays a key role in supporting students at the Edward Brooke Centre. This role ensures students have access to the full curriculum, promotes positive behaviour, and supports reintegration into mainstream education, while sustaining the school’s ethos of inclusivity and academic excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students’ literacy, numeracy, and core skills to enable access to the curriculum.
- Establish and maintain positive routines and adherence to school expectations.
- Track student attendance and performance, identifying underachievement and implementing interventions.
- Maintain behaviour systems and create a positive learning environment aligned with the Christian ethos.
- Develop and implement strategies to remove barriers to student achievement.
- Support onboarding for admissions and reintegration programmes.
- Lead collective worship and promote the school’s Christian ethos.
- Safeguard students’ health, safety, and wellbeing.
- Engage parents and external agencies to support student success.
- Encourage participation in extracurricular activities and maintain effective academic support systems.
Qualifications
Required:
- Degree or equivalent, ideally with behavioural science or psychology components.
Desirable:
- Teaching qualification
- Postgraduate qualification (e.g., NPQ)
- Evidence of ongoing professional development, including Level 3 Safeguarding
Experience
Required:
- Experience supporting students academically and behaviourally in a school or similar setting
- Experience tracking performance and implementing interventions
- Safeguarding certification
Desirable:
- Experience in delivering high-quality education
- Evidence of measurable improvements in student outcomes
- Experience designing and delivering student support programmes
