Careers Advice and Guidance

Careers education information advice and guidance (CEIAG) is central to Saint Gabriel’s College’s aim of raising achievement for all students. A young person’s career is their pathway through learning and work. All young people need a planned programme of activities to help them make decisions and plan their careers, both in school and after they leave us. CEIAG at Saint Gabriel’s College aims to help all students raise personal aspirations and gain the knowledge required to work towards these aspirations. We also support students in developing a positive self-image and an increased self-confidence when planning life as an active citizen after Saint Gabriel’s College.

Saint Gabriel’s College is committed to providing all students in Years 7-11 with a CEIAG programme that has been developed in line with the eight Gatsby benchmarks. We provide appropriate guidance, up to date information and a range of opportunities to support students’ development at key points throughout their education. The CEIAG programme aims to prepare students for the ever-changing opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life and equips them with the skills to manage the choices, changes and transitions ahead of them.

Statement of Commitment

Saint Gabriel's College  are pleased to announce their commitment to working towards re-accreditation of the prestigious "Quality in Careers Standard". The Standard is fully aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks for " Good Career Guidance"  and  complies with DfE statutory guidance. The school has held  the Quality in Careers Standard for a number of years and  is again demonstrating its commitment to providing outstanding impartial, independent CEIAG for all young people by working towards re-accreditation. In meeting the outcomes of the Standard and the Gatsby Benchmarks, Saint Gabriel's College will continue to raise aspiration and achievement amongst students and ensure that we continue to deliver excellence in CEIAG that benefits all of our students.

Measure of Impact Statement

At SGC we use Compass – the careers benchmark tool as outlined in the Gatsby benchmark to assess and improve our current CEIAG provision. Our progress against the Gatsby benchmarks will be reviewed regularly throughout the academic year to help us meet all of the 8 benchmarks by the end of 2024.

We will monitor the impact of our action plan and the CEIAG we deliver mainly through feedback from students and staff.

All activities and policies will be reviewed in Autumn 2024.
